Marion County is located in the geographical center of South Mississippi. Halfway between coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans to the south and Jackson, the population and governmental center of Mississippi to the north, this area has accepted the best influences from these destinations while independently forging its own culture and history. From the people who have transplanted here following a flight from a hurricane, to those who have found their way here from a more urban environment in search of room to grow, to those whose roots go back generations in this place, Marion County has benefited from the influence of this diversity.
